Berkshire’s nature recovery plan set to deliver for wildlife and communities

A bold new strategy to revive Berkshire’s natural environment is poised for adoption by Cabinet, when they meet on Tuesday 30 September.

The Berkshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy sets out a transformative vision to reconnect habitats, revitalise rivers and wetlands, and enhance green spaces for both people and wildlife across Berkshire.

Developed by the Royal Borough as the lead authority, with support from Bracknell Forest Council, Reading Borough Council, Slough Borough Council, West Berkshire Council, Wokingham Borough Council and Natural England, the strategy brings together evidence on Berkshire’s natural assets and identifies priority areas for action, ensuring investment and effort go where they will make the greatest difference.

More than 1,700 children from across the borough took part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, enjoying a programme of fun, creative events with a green-fingered twist.

The challenge, which ran throughout the summer in libraries across the borough, encouraged children to keep reading during the school holidays while exploring the Story Garden theme. Families also enjoyed 61 events, including Lego and board game clubs, art and craft sessions, juggling workshops, a teddy bear’s picnic and author events.

Cllr Douglas joined celebrations at Maidenhead Library on Saturday 20 September to present prizes to some of the borough’s top young readers.
