More time to register for Solar Together

A green energy scheme helping residents and businesses generate renewable energy through solar panels, cutting energy costs has extended their registration period.

We've joined forces with neighbouring councils to group bid for cheaper installation of solar panels through Solar Together. A resident or business owner, with permission from the property owner to install the panels, can now register until Friday 29 August.

Athelstan Walk

Following 2024’s celebration of Athelstan becoming the first King of England, Malmesbury will mark the 1100th anniversary of his coronation as King of Wessex and Mercia this September. To commemorate the occasion, the Athelstan Pilgrim Way is being extended to Kingston upon Thames for a symbolic crown walk, arriving on Thursday 4 September.

Led by the Mayor of Malmesbury, Cllr Stephen James, walkers will reach Windsor on Monday 1 September around 5pm. Local residents and groups are warmly invited to join any stage of the journey.

Come along to our Environment and Climate Change Strategy workshops next week

Following the publication of the Climate Impact Report, we are working on the Environment and Climate Change Strategy 20262030. Ahead of the future public consultation on the strategy at the end of 2025, community groups and residents are invited to attend our early engagement drop ins this summer.

Hosted by the council and The Climate Partnership, the sessions will be run in libraries throughout the borough next week, to hear directly from residents, community groups, businesses and anyone passionate about the environment.

New booking system coming to Lyne Recycling Centre

Borough residents with an SL5 postcode will need to book online to visit Lyne Community Recycling Centre in Chertsey from Monday 11 August until November.

Since March, residents with an SL5 postcode have been able to use Lyne Community Recycling Centre, after an agreement was reached with Surrey County Council.

A new booking system is being trialled by Surrey from Monday to ease congestion at peak times and help them manage the site more effectively.

Slots will be available to book two weeks in advance and residents can make up to 10 appointments per month. Residents who are unable to book online will be able to book a slot by calling 03456 009 009.

You can read more about the Lyne Community Recycling Centre on the Surrey County Council website or find out more about recycling in the Royal Borough on our website
