Strategy to tackle temporary accommodation costs set for Cabinet


A new strategy to tackle the rising cost of temporary accommodation in the borough and improve support for homeless households will be considered when Cabinet meet on Tuesday 22 July.


With demand for temporary accommodation rising considerably locally, also being felt nationally, the proposed Temporary Accommodation Strategy 2025–2028 focuses on action to address these pressures in the borough by increasing supply of cost-effective accommodation and reducing demand through better prevention.

Thunderstorm warnings this Saturday


The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for Saturday 19 July. Information on how to prepare for extreme weather is on our website, including details of how to report things like fallen trees and power lines, and also how to sign up for priority services for water and energy, especially for those that are vulnerable.

Strengthening our approach to consultation


A new approach aiming to give residents a greater voice and increase their opportunities to influence important council decisions, is set to be approved when the decision-making Cabinet meet next week (Tuesday 22 July).


Reflecting the Council Plan vision to be at the heart of the borough’s communities, empower residents and embed a strong and inclusive approach to engagement - the council’s new Consultation Policy builds on current guidance by emphasising the benefits of consulting effectively and better align with LGA best practice.

Come along to our Environment and Climate Change Strategy workshops

 

Following the publication of the Climate Impact Report, we are working on the Environment and Climate Change Strategy 2026-2030. Ahead of the future public consultation on the strategy at the end of 2025, community groups and residents are invited to attend our early engagement drop ins this summer.

 

Hosted by the council and The Climate Partnership, the sessions will be run in libraries throughout the borough over August, to hear directly from residents, community groups, businesses and anyone passionate about the environment.

Cookham Neighbourhood Plan Referendum results


The Cookham Neighbourhood Plan Referendum took place on Thursday 17 July and the results were:

  • Number cast in favour of 'Yes': 1051
  • Number cast in favour of 'No': 75
  • Number of ballots rejected: 5


The turnout was 24.65%.


It was therefore declared that more than half of those voting have voted 'Yes' in response to the question:


‘Do you want the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Cookham to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

New booking system coming to Lyne Recycling Centre


Borough residents with an SL5 postcode will need to book online to visit Lyne Community Recycling Centre in Chertsey from Monday 11 August until November.


Since March, residents with an SL5 postcode have been able to use Lyne Community Recycling Centre, after an agreement was reached with Surrey County Council.


A new booking system is being trialled by Surrey from August to ease congestion at peak times and help them manage the site more effectively.


Slots will be available to book two weeks in advance and residents can make up to 10 appointments per month. Residents who are unable to book online will be able to book a slot by calling 03456 009 009.

Braywick Nature Festival


Braywick Nature Festival is our annual celebration of nature across the borough, taking place from Monday 28 July to Saturday 2 August.


Held at Braywick Nature Centre, we'll be hosting a week of inspiring sessions and activities with local experts, all culminating in a two-day showcase of nature-based family activities, stalls, food and live music.

The closures will be Park Street (part), High Street, Thames Street, River Street, Goswell Road and Sheet Street (part), Windsor from the latter’s junction with Victoria Street to the junction of High Street.
