Vision to rejuvenate Ascot High Street set for Cabinet

Guidance to help deliver the vision to rejuvenate Ascot High Street, improve public spaces, and ensure new development is well integrated will be discussed at Cabinet when they meet on Tuesday 22 July.

The Ascot Placemaking Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), developed following extensive engagement with residents, developers and local businesses, provides a framework to shape future investment and regeneration and support infrastructure planning.

The framework and cabinet report will first be discussed at the Place Overview and Scrutiny Panel meeting on Wednesday 16 July, ahead of Cabinet, where it is being recommended for adoption.

Summer Reading Challenge returns to libraries

Children across the borough are being encouraged to grow their love of reading this summer by taking part in the popular Summer Reading Challenge, which returns to all borough libraries from Saturday 12 July.

This year’s theme is “Story Garden”, celebrating imagination, nature and creativity – and it’s a perfect fit for the borough, with new community gardens now open at both Windsor and Maidenhead libraries.

The challenge, which runs until Friday 13 September, invites children aged 4 to 11 to read six books over the summer holidays. Those taking part can collect stickers and rewards along the way, with a certificate at the end to celebrate their achievement.

Come into any of our branches to register and collect your welcome pack. For more information visit the Summer Reading Challenge event webpage and read our press release

Residents lined the streets on Tuesday morning as traditional military pageantry was rolled out, including the Royal Marines, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Forces. A band was also present to perform during the procession.

Onlookers were able to see the King and President Macron in a ceremonial carriage before the official welcome at Windsor Castle.
